Volosovsky District. Heart of Ingermanland

Volosovsky District located on the Izhora Plateau, in the center of Ingermanland. The height above sea level is 140 meters, approximately. Probably because there are no mosquitoes here.

The area covers 2.7 thousand square kilometers. There are about 200 settlements in the district. The population is 48,000 people, approximately.

58% of the lands are developed (settlements, fields, roads). 42% - forests, wastelands, swamps.
The population density is 17.7 people per square kilometers.
Lakes are rare, but many rivers. The length of the rivers is 535 km about. The biggest - Luga River. The second is Vróda River.
Soils are limestone, highly fertile. Northern black earth. Here the most delicious potato grows - "Volosovskaya kartoshka" brend.

Since ancient times this land was called Ingermanlandia. Nearby were Finland, Estland, Courland, Lapland, Livonia, Karelia. But here was Ingermanlandia.

The history of the settlement of Ingria slips into the depths of time. The region was inhabited by ethnic groups: water, Izhora, Estonians, Ingermanland Finns, Normans (or Varangians). Old Ladoga was founded by the Normans. Later, a more developed culture assimilated into itself primitive. Varangians dissolved in the Slavic culture. Not sure, but very similar.
In the 9th-12th century the Izhora Upland is populated by Slavic tribes. We can assume - the Russians are a mixture of three ethnic groups: Finno-Ugric, Slavs and Normans.

Religion is Lutheran and Orthodox. In the village of Volgovo, the Church of St. Irina, an Orthodox church of both Russians and Finns, has been preserved. Is there another such on the whole world ?.

Light pine forests in the river bed of  Luga

The ancient land is rich in historical monuments, beginning with pagan barrows, ending with numerous estates of the Baltic barons..

For example, the palace of the princes of Trubetskoy in Elizavetino.

The palace was destroyed for a long time.

Unexpectedly, private money was found and the palace was reborn from the ashes.

Of course this is a new building.

For example, the palace of the barons Wrangel in Torosovo. The same fate.

Today Raskulitsy, the estate of the barons Korf, is rotting away. Only gutted gravestones with names to the memorable Russian rumor.

Beseda the estate of  princes of Obolensky

Yastrebino the estate of Boris Wilde, the hero of the French resistance

Kempolovo miraculously preserved landed estates. The estate of grandfather Danzas Konstantin Karlovich. The second of the deadly duel of Pushkin.

In Smerdovitsy, a naval officer, Nikolai Andreevich Rimsky-Korsakov, a participant in a three-year ocean voyage, worked on the opera Sadko, struck by the beauty of the sources of the Vruda River, according to local residents.

Practically, any village stores the names with which Russian history is written.
